Flange bolts must create sufficient gasket compression to seal without exceeding material yield strength. The correct torque ensures:

Torque Calculation Formula
T = K × D × F
- T = Torque (Nm or ft-lbs)
- K = Nut factor (friction coefficient, typically 0.2)

Proper Bolt Tightening Sequence
- Cross-pattern tightening: Start at 12 o’clock, opposite at 6 o’clock
- 30% torque: Snug all bolts in sequence
- 60% torque: Second pass in same sequence
- 100% torque: Final pass to specified torque
- Check: Verify all bolts reach target torque
