Pre-Installation Checklist
- Flange rating matches design pressure and temperature
- Material compatibility with process fluid
- Gasket type and size are correct
- Bolts and nuts are proper grade and length
- Flange faces are clean and undamaged
Step 1: Flange Alignment
Proper alignment is critical. The flanges should be parallel within 1/16 inch per foot of diameter. Use alignment pins to match bolt holes without forcing.
Step 2: Gasket Installation
Select the right gasket: Spiral Wound for general purpose, RTJ for high-pressure oil & gas, Non-Asbestos Sheet for low-medium pressure, PTFE Enveloped for corrosive service.
Step 3: Bolt Torquing Sequence
- Insert all bolts hand-tight
- First pass: 30% of final torque in star pattern
- Second pass: 60% of final torque in star pattern
- Final pass: 100% of final torque in star pattern
